10 page paper (excluding images) Choose three works by Pablo Picasso. Construct an argument, or a thesis, around your three works, to prove a certain point or illustrate a progression in the artists work. The paper should be a limited research paper, using the sources of the course readings (Theories of modern art by Herschel B. Chipp , Art since 1900 by Hal foster) and six to ten additional texts on your particular artist. Electronic scholarly sources are welcome (but not non-scholarly sources) but make sure to include books and catalogues as well in your research. The textbook Art Since 1900 has a good starting bibliography for many artists. You may select your works in a variety of ways. Examples include but are not limited to: works showing one theme chosen from early, middle and late stage of an artists career, works in three media (for example, sculpture, painting and photography) illustrating one theory of the artist, or three paintings with the same theme or subject (for example, three Picasso collages with newspaper clippings). The three works you choose provide, in a sense, the outline for your paper, so that formal observations and your research are integrated to prove your thesis. This paper should have formal footnotes or endnotes and should include a correct bibliography. Please also include photocopy reproductions of your three works. Footnotes should conform to the following source: Chicago Manual of Style (see Guide to Footnotes and Bibliography). Images should be included at the END of the paper, and labeled figure 1, figure 2, etc. Topic: Pablo Picassos idea of his women, and possible misogyny, the best. I think you can choose three faces (perhaps Gertrude Stein, an African one, and a Surrealist one) to see how he depicts women.
