Write a research paper using evidence to support a thesis that addresses your research question examining a current issue or event in the news from the perspective of your field of study. The audience is people who are generally educated but do not have extensive knowledge of your field or topic. Length: At least 2000 words Sources: Minimum of 6. At least 3 of these must be from scholarly journals, and all sources should be selected based on reliability, currency, and level of information/analysis. The UMUC library will be very useful in helping you find appropriate sources. You can, but do not have to, include all of the sources from your annotated bibliography. Due date and revision: The first draft of the research paper is due by the end of Week 5. Submit your draft as an attachment (Microsoft Word is preferred) to this assignment folder. This should be as complete a draft as possible, in order to receive the most helpful feedback. In working on your draft, you may want to look at the rubric that will ultimately be used to grade your final paper. You can see it when viewing these instructions through the Assignments area of the classroom. During Week 6, you will receive feedback on your draft. You will then revise your paper and submit it by the end of Week 7 to the folder “Assignment 3: Research Paper, revised draft.” This version will be graded using the rubric and will count for 30% of your course grade. Your instructor may or may not complete the rubric for your first draft, but only the grade on your revised paper will count toward your course grade. Retrieved from Vice: This article delves into how pornography has played a major effect on millennial men. It also brings information on unusual side effects from pornography. Porn has created less motivated men and women. The author sheds light on the declining sex life of millennials and draws a direct correlation to porn addiction. Vice is a credible source when it comes to detailed investigations with issues pertaining to millennials. They have covered a wide range of political and social issues that they have been praised by other accredited journalistic entities. The author uses empirical data to back up their claim. I plan to use this source in my paper to showcase issues pertaining to porn addiction; millennials having less sex and how that affects the future relationships and mental health of these young people. I believe it is important to show how a society of young men who are no longer motivated to engage in sexual activity can cause issues in a society in the long run. Ling, L. (2019, September 28). He says he became addicted to porn at 12.Retrieved from CNN: https://www.google.com/amps/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2019/09/27/health/this-is-life-lisa-ling-alex-rhodes-nofap-wellness/index.hrml Lisa Ling interviews a 26-year-old that is addicted to porn. He talks about his first sexual experience at 12. It shows how easy and accessible pornography is to children. Many factors played into his addiction, one of which is social media. Softcore porn is extremely prevalent on social media. Its very easy for kids to access all types of porn with the advent of smartphones. The gentleman being interviewed was able to beat his addiction and started a company helping other addicts recover from porn addiction. This CNN story is very useful because it comes from the perspective of a former addict. No one knows the effects of addiction more than the addict. From his firsthand account, one can see how a 12-year-old boy can grow up to become a serial masturbator. I plan on using this source to humanize the addiction. Its easy to throw statistics about addiction but people tend to empathize with it when a person is talking about its effect on their life. I will also use this source to illustrate how simple it is for young boys to have access to porn. Ruben de Alarcon, J. d. (2019). The Journal of Clinical Medicine deals only in facts and statistics backed up by empirical data. I will use this source to illustrate alarming statistics to support my thesis.
