Throughout the course we have discussed the importance of self-awareness in effective counseling practice. We also have covered the importance of developing skills in working with clients who may be from a different culture and have a value system that may differ from our own. Effective counselors appreciate the influence of culture. One way to experience diversity is to participate in the activities of groups different from your own. For this assignment, you are to attend an activity associated with a culture or ethnic group distinctively different than your own. For example, visit a festival, club, or attend a church service other than your own. Write a short description (2-3 pages) of what you did, how it felt while you were doing it, and what you learned.
