Comparing Goverments of Two States

The analytical essay will be no fewer than four pages and no more than six in length, double-spaced, in a 12-point font in APA style. Charts are acceptable but do not count for the minimum four-page text. Essays are not opinion pieces and should be as well sourced and professional as possible written in the third person. A rubric is assigned to this assignment.

The assignment is to compare two states and their type of government supported by real world examples and sources. Key elements to be addressed and compared are: 1. Type of government and their respective constitution, 2. Economy/gross domestic product (GDP), and 3. Geography. Compare and comment on their ability to sustain their respective sovereignty.

Key on the areas that help to sustain or strengthen sovereignty. Though not necessary, consider China, Russia, Mexico, countries that are U.S. adversaries or troubled states (though not considered, there is much reason to consider Mexico’s internal threat or organized crime. Though the same could be said for Russia often considered by some as a criminal state). Some of you may have already made your choices.

In general, the essay will demonstrate your ability to compare and contrast two different systems of government as given in the course materials. Current events are encouraged if they demonstrate concepts from the course. Each essay should be analytical in nature, meaning that they should be critically thought out, well researched using materials provided from the readings or PDB as support for original arguments in answering the requirements.
