Analysis of “Marginality as a Sight of Resistance” by bell hooks then applying her theory to the #blacklivesmatter movement and the affect of the #alllivesmatter movement

In this 8 page term paper (not including bibliography) you will be evaluated on your capacity to apply a theoretical concept to the analysis of every day lived experience. Hence the assignment asks you to: -Provide a theoretical analysis of a cultural object using one of the theorists/concepts looked at in class. The main focus of this paper must remain an illustration of the theoretical concepts you have chosen to work with, and not the cultural object itself. – Realize that one of the strategies behind the assignment is to prevent spending time researching into the topic – Youre just being asked to look at the researched topic in more detail – Assignment is constructed to not display personal opinions, just analyze scholarly – You want to show how much knowledge you have on the topic by being able to apply the chosen theory to a current topic – Remember to think: what is it specifically that the theorist provides you with that allows you to read this cultural object in a specific way? – Could I have written this if I hadnt read this paper? – You want to interpret something new because of your reading/theory Throughout Marginality as a Sight of Resistance by bell hooks, a main focal point throughout the article is to give voice to the marginalized and separate the colonizer to the colonized. The #blacklivesmatter movement is an example of bell hooks goal because it gives a voice to a historically marginalized group. However, another movement that has recently been taking notice is the #alllivesmatter movement, which was created to include all colors and genders. Yet, bell hook would disagree with the timing of this movement because it suggests that all people deserve equal attention, rather than the marginalized, in this case black people. This raises the question: does the #alllivesmatter movement miss the fact that black people have not yet been included in the idea of all lives? This question will be analyzed and answered through bell hooks perspective and writings in Marginality as a Sight of Resistance. Little outside sources are needed, almost half the paper should be explaining bell hooks’ theory and the other half should be applying it to the movements. Bibliography in MLA format is required.
