Psychology DSM5 Diagnosis

For this final paper, you will select a current news article or character from a film. You will describe the article and/or character and discuss the symptoms that the person may embody. You will then describe the potential syndrome based on the DSM5 criteria. You will then highlight any potential concern/issue about this syndrome that may affect this characters classification. Use your notes from class, the textbook, and the readings to help guide you on how to write the different sections of the paper. Make sure that each section of the paper is clear and answers the questions, which are listed below. Give detailed explanations, particularly in the syndrome classification. Also, check that the paper flows, that the sections transition well, and that the citations and other elements are in APA-style. This proposal should be double-spaced, at a maximum of 6-8 pages total (including title page, abstract page, and references page). This gives you plenty of space, but be sure to be succinct and to the point. 1) Title page: 10 points. -Did you follow APA-style? -Did you include a title which mentions the important constructs and gives idea of research question addressed in study? -Did you include authors name, authors affiliation, page #, & running head? 2) Abstract: 10 points maximum 150 words. -Did you include approximately one sentence for each section: Introduction, Proposed Thesis & Discussion? 3) Introduction Section: 25 points. -Is the paragraph interesting and draw in the reader? -Does it describe a current news and/or film (including the character) in detail? -Does it mention the different concepts discussed in class? -Is each paragraph one idea unit? Review one concept per paragraph. -Explain the symptoms? Cite symptoms as needed. – Are the findings summarized in your own words? -Does paragraph tie together the information from the previous paragraphs? -Is the thesis clear? 4) Body of Paper: 25 points -Did you describe the symptoms and syndromes of your choice? -Did you describe the diagnostic classification according DSM5? -Did you describe the prevalence of this syndrome? -Did you describe the syndrome according to the multi-path model? -Did you describe the syndrome according to different psychological theories? -Did you describe concerns re: this syndrome that may impact the classification? 6) Discussion: 20 points -Did you describe your thesis again? -Did you describe the classification and the role of gender/culture/society? -Did you describe treatment that this individual can take? -Did you describe any further implications for treatment? 7) References: 5 points -Are the references arranged in alphabetical order according to authors last name? -Did you remember to include a reference for every citation in the paper? -Double check all of the punctuation on each reference 8) Writing style & APA style: 5 points -Are the citations in APA style? -Is the overall paper in APA style? -Is the writing clear and without typos and stylistic problems? -Do you treat each paragraph as one idea unit? -Did you avoid quotations? -Does it connect paragraphs through transition sentences? Other APA-Style Issues to Check: 1. All sources are cited with APA style including Authors and Year 2. All places which require a citation have one; including page # for direct quotes. 3. Proper punctuation in APA-style 4. Proper headings in APA style 5. Title Page, Abstract and References are on their own pages 6. Sections of paper are in the correct order 7. References are in alphabetical order. 8. References paragraphs have a hanging indent (not tabbed). 9. Entire paper is double-spaced. 10. All pages have the Running Head in the upper left hand corner. 11. All pages have page number in the upper right hand corner.
