Facts about my Master Thesis: My dissertaion is about Trump and his use of Digital Diplomacy on Twitter. My case study is: Iran-US nuclear conflict. Key words: Digital diplomacy, foreing policy (FP), self-presentation, Iran-US conflict. Analysis: I am using Realism and Mors self-presentation theory. Realism: I am analysing trump America First dicourse through the lenses of realism. – Realism is going to be used as perhaps a way what FP behaviour realist would expect. They would expect states to be motivated ultimately by self-interest, they would see states be driven by security dilemma, identify the FP interest as being consistent with positioning the state as best as possible within the security dilemma in questions. – And the security dilemma i am looking at is Iran-US nuclear conflict. What is interesting is where the America first discourse comes in? It sounds like classic self-help. – America first is the answer to whatever foreing policy decision Trump has made. Mors self-presentation theory: In the beginning mention that what we are looking at is an insting of a identity predicament, maybe it links to the identity shift in international relations. When you have identity as kind of turrain of IR and FP then you get this kind of identity predicament. Because where i wanna go is the to use image protection predicament as a platform to understand Trumps twitter behaviour in relations to Iran-US nuclear conflict. OUTLINE FOR THE INDTRUCTION/PROBLEM AREA: Focus on: Digital diplomacy, Trump and the case. The indtruction should remain these areas!! – The big picture FP is in flux changning. And there is two kind of changes is going on. One is the Digital diplomatic term, which is really interesting because it perhaps undermines not only what we actually we see as FP and what people do as FP. So we have ask the questions do we have analytical tool that are fit to the purpose to understanding this shift to? SO there’s this technological shift which is changning the forms and perhaps consequences in shape in diplomatic practices (GET THIS CLEARLY AS POSSIBLE IN THE FRONT). – State why the Iran-US conflict is interesting. Is an ongoing FP dilemma. What you have a painfully negotiated treaty which have resolved in a serious tension. There is perhaps a lot conventional diplomatic practices going in to delivering this treaty, which Trump effectively use Twitter to talk about. There is an interesting sort of classic FP issue there, you got this inherent FP dilemma. Which the previous administrations put this kind of treaty into place and Trump has very quick sort to undermine the usage of social media. – To argue for why my case and this topic in general is relevant and interesting talk about: A great example is what he did with the Kurds! Illustration of why this stuff matters. It not just the mechanism i am describing, but it is also the medium, the fact that this was done on twitter! This was a major FP reversal. Basically in a couple of tweets and it created this utter crisis. Fact about the Kurds: Trump announced that America will be pulling about there troops out of Syria, without telling pentagon, they were blinsided. Trump decision may not such big of a deal, but it is. Because america troops in syria has been protected Kurdish forces from Turkey. And the Kurds has been essential in Americas fight agianst ISIS. Trump decision has put Kurdish in danger. And without the Kurds ISIS could make the biggest comeback. – What I am saying here is things are changing the way in which FP is done is changing because the changing nature of the platform upon which is conducted. – WHat i am going to trying to bring into the table here is the understanding, and bringing in Self-presentation theory there try to understand what is going on here. – Mention that what we are looking at is an insting of a identity predicament, maybe it links to the identity shift in international relations. When you have identity as kind of turrain of IR and FP then you get this kind of identity predicament. Because where i wanna go is the to use image protection predicament as a platform to understand Trumps twitter behaviour in relations to Iran-US nuclear conflict. RQ: To what extent in the Iran-US has it been possible to use DPD as a way of challenging the policy framework upon which the Iran-US conflict was being managed? First half of the RQ: We need know why. Get us to the point where we understand the first point of the RQ. 1. What tactics or strategies of Mors self-presentation does Trump use on twitter in relation to the Iran-US conflict? 2. How does Trump use social media platform to justify this FP? 3. What are the consequences for the way in which the US-Iran conflict is understood?
