Evaluate author(s)’ use of data, method(s) used in the analyses, and interpretation of results.

The topic explored in the articles listed below is FIRE. They cover various recent research about when, where, and why Paleolithic hominins used and controlled fire. You are already familiar with many of the approaches and methods mentioned in these articles from our class meeting. Reading scholarly paper however isn’t the same as reading other types of writing (novels, historical narratives, popular magazine pieces, literary essays, journalistic reports). You may find yourself in despair while trying to understand the content (see this fun piece and know you aren’t alone). I therefore strongly advise you to check how to read a scholarly paper written for non-scientists (and those soon to become scientists) by Dr Jenny Raff: https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/impactofsocialsciences/2016/05/09/how-to-read-and-understand-a-scientific-paper-a-guide-for-non-scientists/. Length : 5 pages (doublespaced) no more and no less than 5, font Times New Roman size 12 Pt. in .doc or docx format. Please do not upload it as Google Doc, Notes, RTF or TXT file! Organize your narrative in the following way: -Short introduction mentioning the title, author(s), and where it was published (journal, special issue), are the articles an outcome of a scholarly conference meeting etc. – Follow with a short but comprehensive description of the main points in the article. – Evaluate author(s)’ use of data, method(s) used in the analyses, and interpretation of results. – Follow with a short conclusion summarizing your assessment of the scholarly and/or broader significance (beyond archaeology) of the article. – Add a list of additional references you may have used to help evaluation process (you are encouraged to find them in author’s references, or from the same Current Anthropology special issue. you certainly can include the textbook from this course when appropriate). Remember to cite the textbook fully: author names, title, publisher, publication date). Use the same reference list and citation format as you see in this same Current Anthropology paper you are reviewing.
