CHILD OBSERVATION PAPER PART B Complete the following steps in order to write your polished child observation paper (Part B) Revisions A. Make the revisions to your paper that were suggested by your faculty. This is your final polished paper that you will turn in along with your first edited draft in class. You do not need to write another paper, you just make the edits to your first paper. Unless, faculty recommends you to go back to collect more observation data. Since this course meets the requirements for General Education Breadth E1; therefore, there is a 1000 + word writing requirement that includes iterative writing. (Key to this process is drafting (child observation paper), getting feedback and revision, and making theoretical connections (child observation part B). Demonstrate Analysis of Findings B. Choose three theories/theorists to make theoretical connections to your observation data in four of the developmental domains. (I recommend you choose Erikson, Freud, and Piaget if you observed an infant or toddler). Cite quotes directly from the textbook, document page number. In addition, find three online scholarly journals to support your theories/theorists. See an example on the next page: 2 CHILD OBSERVATION PAPERCHILD OBSERVATION PAPER (B)Language Development Jovan is 4 years-old, and according to Vygotskys sociocultural theory (Berger, 2009, p.52), Jovan is developing typically with the support of a mentor. His caregiver is providing guided participation, also known as apprenticeship in thinking during individual story time by listening, and pointing to pictures. He recognizes the animals in the book, and shouts, a cow! The caregiver prompts him to think about the sound that cows make, and Jovan responded by saying it goes moo, moo! He also uses the internal dialogue known as private speech. This is evident when Jovan was playing with Legos; he picked up a piece of the Lego, and he said out loudly, I am going to make a car, first I find the wheels! Vygotsky believed that private speech is a tool for thinking, planning, and self-regulation (Sawyer, 2016, p.84). Jovan uses social mediation during story time when some pictures triggered a memory about his trip to the zoo with his family. According to Berger, 2009, Vygotsky believed Just as a builder needs tools to construct a house, the mind needs language. Talking, listening, reading, and writing are tools to advance thought (p.255). Creative/Aesthetic According to Piagets theory of cognitive development, Jovan is in the preoperational stage. He demonstrates symbolic representation. This was evident during easel painting; He associated the orange paint color to orange juice. Piaget would say that Jovan, exemplified the idea of play with the absence of the actual objects involved (Berger, 2014). CHILD OBSERVATION PAPER Submit your APA style paper in the following order: ? Title page (Your title page should contain a running head, the title of the paper, your name and your school affiliation). ? Abstract page (The abstract is a very short summary of your paper. This section is placed immediately after the title page. According to the rules of APA format, your abstract should be no more than 150 to 250 words) ? Write the body of your observation data (keep in mind you are writing a factual story about your child and you are connecting the findings to theoretical connections. Use subheadings for each of the developmental domains. ? Conclusion: draw some conclusions about what you think about your observation experience and findings. What have you learned from completing this assignment? ? A separate reference page: See example below: ReferenceBerger, K.S. (2009). I think I can: Preschoolers private speech and motivation in playful versus non-playful contexts. Early Childhood Research Quarterly, 38, 84-96. Observational data depicts accurate and thorough details ? Observation data supports the theoretical linkage (textbook and scholarly journals) ? Behavioral skills are identified age-appropriately for each domain ? Conclusion strongly supports your thoughts about the observations and findings Knowledge of Conventions ? Mechanics of writing: capitalization, punctuation, and spelling ? Narrative displays organized and smooth linkage from one idea to another ? Exhibits skillful use of vocabulary that is precise, purposeful, and relevant ? 5+ pages; doubled-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font, and with one-inch margins ? APA style (title page, abstract, body of paper, conclusion, and reference page) I will add part A although it needs revisions too and I would like you to revisions those errors because the language when seeing the child was SUBJECTIVE rather than OBJECTIVE. More or less the paper would have to be in a such third person.
