I. Introduction: Your research paper should begin with a 1 to 3 paragraph introduction. When writing your introduction, remember that a good introduction should go from broad to specific. II. Statement of the Research Question or Problem: Following the introduction, clearly state the research question or problem that you will be addressing with your project. III. Annotated Bibliography: The body of your paper should consist of a minimum of 6 peer-reviewed research articles pertaining to your research question. They should be presented in an annotated bibliography in APA format. What is an annotated bibliography? An annotated bibliography is an organized review of literature that consists of a list of citations from books, articles and/or other documents. Following each citation there is a brief description and evaluation of the listing. An annotated bibliography is used for many purposes including but not limited to: Reviewing literature on a particular subject Illustrating the quality of research available Describing other items on a topic that may be of interest Exploring the subject for further research Preparing or organizing information for a more in depth report Providing examples of the types of sources available How do you create an annotated bibliography? Creating an annotated bibliography will require the systematic collection of sources through library research, interpretation and analysis, and clear explanation through writing. 1. After choosing your topic, locate and record citations of articles that pertain to your research topic. Briefly review the items that you find useful and discard the items that are not useful to your research topic. Be sure to include multiple perspectives to support your research topic. Write a concise annotation that summarizes the theme of article, including but not limited to the purpose of the research, methodology, results, and discussion. Within the annotation you should include: An evaluation of the authors authority or background A comment on the intended audience Compare or contrast this article with others that you have cited Explain how this work relates to your topic Any personal comments that will remind you of this work or give insight to the reader IV. Clinical Implications: Following the annotated bibliography include one to two paragraphs on the clinical implications. Describe how the results of this literature review will effect or influence your clinical practice. V. Conclusion: In this section, include 1-2 paragraphs that wrap up your findings and make your concluding remarks. What should the reader take home with them? Remember that a conclusion is the opposite of an introduction and that it should go from specific back to broad. VI. Future Research: The final section of your paper should include your thoughts for future research based on your findings. You may have found a lack of necessary information in one area or a need for a particular type of study. This is where you can remark on these thoughts. VII. References: List of references in APA format.
